Parallel storage and retrieval of pixmap images
نویسنده
چکیده
Professionals in various fields such as medical imaging, biology and civil engineering require rapid access to huge amounts of uncompressed pixmap image data. To fulfill these requirements, a parallel image server architecture is proposed, based on arrays of intelligent disk nodes, with each disk node composed of one processor and one disk. This contribution shows how images can be partitioned into extents and efficiently distributed among available intelligent disk nodes. The image server's performance is analyzed according to various parameters such as the number of cooperating disk nodes, the sizes of image file extents, the available communication throughput and the processing power of disk node and image server processors. Important image access speed improvements are obtained by image extent caching and image part extraction in disk nodes. With TBOO transputer-based technology, a system composed of eight disk nodes offers access to three full-color 512x512 pixmap image parts per second (2.4 megabytes per second). For the same configuration but with the recently announced T9000 transputer, image access throughput is eight images per second (6.8 megabytes per second).

Reducing Retrieval Time in Automated Storage and Retrieval System with a Gravitational Conveyor Based on Multi-Agent Systems
The main objective of this study is to reduce the retrieval time of a list of products by choosing the best combination of storage and retrieval rules at any time. This is why we start by implementing some storage rules in an Automated Storage/Retrieval System (Automated Storage and Retrieval System: AS/RS) fitted with a gravity conveyor while some of these rules are dedicated to storage and ot...
متن کاملRetrieval–travel-time model for free-fall-flow-rack automated storage and retrieval system
Automated storage and retrieval systems (AS/RSs) are material handling systems that are frequently used in manufacturing and distribution centers. The modelling of the retrieval–travel time of an AS/RS (expected product delivery time) is practically important, because it allows us to evaluate and improve the system throughput. The free-fall-flow-rack AS/RS has emerged as a new technology for dr...

Purpose: the current research aimed to compare the effectiveness of various tags and codes for retrieving images from the Google. Design/methodology: selected images with different characteristics in a registered domain were carefully studied. The exception was that special conceptual features have been apportioned for each group of images separately. In this regard, each group image surr...
متن کاملA High-Performance Database System for Managing Large Multi-resolution Medical Images
In this work we address the design of a database system to explore, process, and visualize very large (multiterabyte) multi-resolution image datasets, obtained from MRI, CT and ultrasound, and digitized microscopy images. The basic requirements for such a database management system include (1) support for adding and managing user-defined processing functions, (2) managing datasets stored in dis...
